Monday's Scintillating Interview!

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting Author: LEE PIPER!

1)    Have you always wanted to be an author?
Always. When I was a little girl it was the first profession I wanted to do. I used to write so many poorly spelled stories about unicorns and horses, it was ridiculous. Sadly, there weren’t too many people interested in them. It wasn’t until I discovered Kylie Scott’s, Stage Dive series years and years later that I wanted to give the whole writing gig a real shot. You see, I loved how her characters interacted with one another, reading her books was like hanging out with ridiculously attractive friends who had hella sexy times. She lit a fire in my belly and I’ve never looked back.

2)    What genre(s) do you write?
I write Australian rock romance. Think thundering drum beats, dirty guitar riffs and smokin’ hot men.

3)    Have you ever self published?
No, though the thought has crossed my mind. I’m in awe of the indi authors who have made a name for themselves, it’s brilliant to see a group of assertive and resilient men and women positively impacting the romance scene. Who knows, maybe in the future I’ll dabble in it?

4)    Who or what inspired you to write your first book?
Like I mentioned previously, Kylie Scott inspired me to write my first novel, Rock My World. After my second miscarriage in as many years, I was over the realities of life and needed an escape for a while. Her books gave me this and they also reignited my love of writing. So yeah, I fangirl over her like nobody’s business.

5)    How many hours in a day might you write?
I’m currently on maternity leave from full time work, so in between changing nappies, feeding, sterilizing bottles, singing God knows how many nursery rhymes, not to mention wrangling a four year old, I write when I can. Normally this happens when my youngest is down for her afternoon nap and my eldest is immersed in Sesame Street. Once they’re both asleep in the evening I then fight off fatigue with a sugar hit of chocolate and pump out as many words as I can before I can no longer see straight. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

6)    Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I’m a combination of the two. At the start of every book, I plot out a basic storyline, the characters, their motivations, and their relationships with one another. Then, (post-natal injuries aside) I go for a jog along the beach while listening to heavy rock music. This is when I think up each chapter of my WIP. Most often, I will let the ideas sit with me for a while—overnight works best—and then get up at 5am the next day to put pen to paper until 7am which is when I get the kids up. In the evening, I then go over what was written that morning; I type it up and spend the next day or so tidying it up until I am happy with it.

8) Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how you relate to others?
Yeah, I’m constantly so immersed in the stories in my head, I’m not always present in everyday conversations. My husband is great about it though, reckon he loves the silence!
9)    Are you in any of your books?
To be honest, the heroine from Rock My Body, Book #2 in the Mondez series is pretty much me reincarnated. I continuously thought to myself, how would I react in this situation, and then wrote the book. It also helps that this novel raises the issue of mental health, since the main character, Riley Sears, has clinically diagnosed anxiety. This is a topic I’m passionate about, having experienced mental illness first hand for most of my adult life, so I’m proud to acknowledge this in my writing too.
10) What do your friends and family have to say about you writing?
They have all been ridiculously supportive. I first started writing for my cousin and mum, I’d send chapters to them each week and they enjoyed them so much it kind of snowballed from there. It’s such a blessing to have so many people have my back during this crazy venture!
Though, that’s not to say it can’t get a bit awkward during the whole, “So, what do you write?” conversation. Especially when you reply, “Australian rock romance.” Most often they choke on their drink and assume you’re some deviant with a geological fetish. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen too often.
Please share an excerpt from your book that totally spoke to you when you put the words down on paper.

Excerpt from Rock My Body, Book #2 in the Mondez series:
He was watching me, I could feel it. My body sensed him long before my head did and started tingling. Everywhere.
Oh, holy mother.
Just the thought of him made my heart pound. Traitorous thing. It merrily rammed against my ribcage as soon as I pictured his tall, muscular body and disheveled russet hair. My fingers itched to reach out and delve through the soft strands as I remembered what it felt like to tug on them as he groaned into my open mouth—but I shifted in my seat and sat on them instead. I wasn’t going down that road again, hell no. I was done. Done.
A low chuckle cut through the muted sounds of heavy rock music emanating from inside, its gravelly sound resonating with my downstairs department, causing a deep blush to stain my cheeks.
Clearly, I wasn’t fooling anyone.
What in the name of sweet baby Jesus was he even doing here?
I tried so hard to focus on what Sebastian was saying. Thankfully, he held up his end of the conversation despite my unexpected inability to formulate any words. We’d been sitting together for a while without a single awkward pause so I nodded, smiled, and even laughed when required. To be fair, it was a pretty decent pickup attempt. Well, until he showed up.
Blue eyes burned my skin.
You don’t own me, you don’t own me, you don’t
I swallowed, steeled myself and then glanced across the beer garden.
Own me.
Fuck.
Dominic was leaning against the wall, his black button-down shirt almost bursting at the seams. I blamed those insanely strong pecs and biceps. Honestly, they were huge. And the way his dark blue jeans hung enticingly low off narrow hips… It should be illegal. He was going to give someone—AKA me—a cardiac arrest if he wasn’t careful.
I shook my head. With a bottle of beer in one hand and a buxom blonde in the other—this one looked nastier than most—the guy was the physical embodiment of everything I despised. Truly.
If only my body would listen.
Raising the drink to full, kissable lips, he tipped his head back, piercing gaze still locked on me. He then wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, a flicker of emotions I couldn’t identify crossing his face when he noticed my breath catch.
The girl must have registered his distraction too because she started rubbing herself up against him like an overly aroused limpet. Gross. He broke contact with me and looked down at her, a dark smile tugging his lips. After murmuring something in her ear and slapping her on the ass, she giggled. I looked away, that familiar painful knot forming in my stomach once more.
Damn you, Dominic Mondez. Damn you to hell.
